CCN: Rob Paulsen Interview May 2018

Through Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles history there is a group of amazing people who can say they’ve been along for the ride of a lifetime through different areas of Ninja Turtle history.  Rob Paulsen is one of those amazing people that can share stories from working on the original TMNT series from 1987 to 1995, as Raphael.  He came back in the 2012 Nickelodeon series all the way through 2017 as the voice of Donatello.  And now he’s staying with the Ninja Turtles for their newest series coming out this fall, “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.  I caught up with Rob Paulsen at Motor City Comic Con where he agreed to give us this short interview.

Once I learned that Rob Paulsen was going to be at Motor City Comic Con, I knew I wanted to get the chance to interview him, though did not know if he would have the time.  As we went up to his booth, the line was long and excited.  Everyone who came out from seeing Rob had their story to share, showing us what they had signed.  What amazing stories they all had, of how Rob’s characters have changed their life.  One girl was so thrilled that he took a moment to have a photo with her, she stayed around and shared her passion with us.

This was the kind of crowd you want to see for a convention, happy people.  With their heads held high, their passion of joy spreading from one person to the next.  The smiles were everywhere.  I finally saw a fast break just to say hi to Rob, without taking the time from those in line.  Which is when I asked if we could do an interview some point during the weekend.  He agreed that he wanted to do an interview, and we could do it Saturday during his break.  I thanked him, and went on my way so everyone could keep making their fresh new memories.

Rob Paulsen gives off this vibe when you meet him, he inspires joy, laughter, and the need to do good for those around you.  I have had the honor of knowing Rob since October 2005, when he came to the old Fall Show for Motor City Comic Con.  Through these years we’ve done a few interviews, including one right before the 2012 Nickelodeon series happened.  I encouraged everyone I talked to at the convention to take a moment to just go and see Rob Paulsen, to say hello and tell him their favorite voice that he did.  He’ll sing as Yakko, Narf as Pinky and yell Cowabunga as Raphael.  While he’s giving us these outstanding memories, he’s feeling joy in all the smiles that are around him.

The following day I came back and waited for his break.  Once again talking to friends and fans as they came through the area.  Some knew who I was, others just shared their passions with whom ever asked.  Once his break rolled around, we pulled up near his table to film.  This was a short 10 minute interview, so that he could still enjoy his break and talk to other friends from his past who came by to see him.

In this interview we talk about the end of the Nickelodeon series and how he became the voice director for “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.  I am thankful that he took this little bit of time to catch us up on what he’s been up too.  And I look forward to talking with Rob again, once the series is released to go more into details of “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.

I hope everyone enjoys this brief interview.  We will keep them coming as we get them!  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
