Kodak Moment #104

I got hundreds to thousands of photos through my life.  A lot of which would match up to stories here on Cowabunga Corner, but for one reason or another they are not chosen.  This does not mean that these photos are not worth sharing and do not hold stories of their own.  I would like to keep sharing what I can here on the site, so whenever I can I will share a photo and a story to go along with the photo.  If it’s a part of events that has been shared here, we will link back to the stories of the events themselves as well.  Hope everyone enjoys.  Today’s photo is from Toronto Fan Expo 2004.

I remember this convention well, I traveled to Toronto with my mom and dad for Toronto Fan Expo.  They had a lot of TMNT guests that year including the Mirage crew  Jim Lawson, Eric Talbot, Steve Lagvine, and Michael Dooney with Peter Laird.  Michael Sinterniklaas who was the voice of Leonardo for the 2003 series and then there was Scott McNeil, the man who played Bonesteel the big game hunter from Ninja Turtles : The Next Mutation.  This was my first time meeting Scott, so I spent most of the weekend around him, getting to talk and laugh a lot.  Though on the last day of the convention we stopped by the Mirage booth, which is when this photo was taken.

It was right before closing as we went by to see the Mirage crew.  This was the first, and the last time I got to wear my costume for Peter Laird.  My dad caught a photo of Peter and I, then my mom asked for a head sketch, the lights on the dealer room floor was turning off letting us know the convention was closing.  At the time, it was only $5 for a Ninja Turtle head sketch.  I asked my mom if she could get me one too, as I spent all my money at the Style Online booth getting Ninja Turtle Shirts.  She smiled and said to Peter “Michele would like one too..”  That’s when Peter stood up and said…

“I got something special for Michele”  he turned and pulled this big drawing he did of all four Turtles.  He handed it to me, my jaw dropped.  I went to shake his hand to say thanks and he pulled me into a hug.  Right after my dad caught this photo of Peter, me and the drawing he gave me.  A memory I cherish.  I keep this drawing on display at all time, and love everything about it.

In Peter’s hand is his sign that he had hanging up at the booth saying “$5 head sketches”, which is something else I got in my collection that day.  He’s removing the tape from the back of it.  I have my head up a bit, you can tell my hair is wet from wearing the costume.  You can also see a part of the plastron coming up in the middle from age.  I can’t wear my glasses while in the costume, so I do not have my glasses on in this photo.

This is a great memory, and is one of the last conventions where I got to wear my costume.  Have you ever been to Toronto Fan Expo?  Please share your stories, comments and questions below!
