Random Collection Piece #8

Throughout the years of being a Ninja Turtle fan, my collection has been growing.  Every year I get something new that joins the collection.  Growing since 1989, I have over 500 Ninja Turtle toys out of package and over 300 in package, as well as books, animation cels, original comic art, scripts and so much more.  To cover all of this on Cowabunga Corner is not something I really think I can do.  Though I get a lot of questions about my collection, so I figured I could do random stories from time to time to share one item in my collection.

This week I’m focusing on a Teenage Mutant Hero Turtle Plushie I have.  This doll was given to me as a gift in 1997 and I’d like to share its story.  I was traveling to Vancouver, BC in July 1997 to visit the set of Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation.  We had an invite to stay at a friend’s house in the area, and my sister was already there.  Miki greeted us upon arrival and to my surprise they had a handful of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle items for me, including this one plushie.

The plushie looks like it could've been won at a fair, as it’s not the normal store quality toy.  It was a light color green, the face mask barely fit on over the eyes, the mouth is opened big with a toothy grin, the M on the belt does not even look really like an M.  The armbands were worn and already starting to fall apart. I held the right armband in place with a safety pin.  I have dolls similar to quality that are from fairs, but this one is very different in looks.

What caught my attention with this piece though was the tag.  I read on the front that it says ACE in big letters, under it in smaller letters harder to read is ACE NOVELTY INTERNATIONAL LTD.  On the back of the tag it reads TEENAGE MUTANT HERO TURTLES.  That is when I stopped and read it over and over again.  I’ve always loved getting my hands on Hero Turtles collectibles.  I asked where they got this, and it came from a thrift store there in Vancouver, BC.  Though this piece had to be originally picked up in England and brought here.

Anyone know anything else about this plush Hero Turtle?  Where they were sold?  I know on the tag it says 1989 and it was made in China, though filled in the UK.  It would be cool to learn the backstory of this plush Turtle.  If anyone has any questions or comments please feel free to post below!
