What's Happening This Week - January Week 3

Hard to believe the first month of the new year is almost over! Time just flies by sometimes.  There's a lot of good stuff coming up this week, especially with television. The winter hiatus ends for most shows this week, which is awesome for me because all of the shows I do watch begin their return this week.

So, here is the list of all of the new stuff coming out this week!

Movies In Theater

SYNOPSIS: Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Starring: Ewan McGregor, Gwyneth Paltrow, Johnny Depp, Olivia Munn

Directed by: David Koepp

Now, normally, I love Johnny Depp, but his movies are just not up to par for what he can do lately. He does look like he is having fun. Will I see this movie? I don't know. There's not a lot of movies out right now that have me dying to go see them in theater. I may see this movie in theater for cheap, if I am bored.

SYNOPSIS: Neglected by her adulterous husband and left feeling particularly vulnerable as her marriage crumbles, lonely teacher Claire  has an affair with a younger neighbor that turns terrifying as his fiery lust morphs into dangerous obsession.

Starring: Jennifer Lopez, John Corbett, Kristin Chenoweth, Ryan Guzman

Directed by: Rob Cohen

Not much for me to say about this movie, other than I probably will not see it. Maybe if I'm bored after it is on Netflix, but I don't see myself paying money to see this unless I hear good things from my buddies who have seen it. I've never really found Jennifer Lopez to be a headlining movie star. That's not to say she is a bad actress, I just don't see her exuding the same amount of star quality as other actresses.

SYNOPSIS: Popular songs from the past six decades help tell the tale of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion.

Starring: Elijah Kelley, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Chenoweth, Maya Rudolph

Directed by: Gary Rydstrom

Seems more movies are going with musicals lately. Though, this is an animated movie, and it is more common, they are using popular songs. I'm not sold on this movie though. There really hasn't been enough promotional material released for it to really capture any interest. That's either because it is bad or because they just didn't want to promote it. If I hear this is amazing from people who I know will see it, I might watch it then. But as of right now, I don't believe I will be seeing this movie.

SYNOPSISJohn Form has found the perfect gift for his expectant wife, Mia—a beautiful, rare vintage doll in a pure white wedding dress. But Mia’s delight with Annabelle doesn’t last long. On one horrific night, their home is invaded by members of a satanic cult, who violently attack the couple. Spilled blood and terror are not all they leave behind. The cultists have conjured an entity so malevolent that nothing they did will compare to the sinister conduit to the damned that is Annabelle.

Starring: Alfre Woodard, Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton

Directed by: John R. Leonetti

As a kid, I had a lot of porcelain dolls. They scared me to death, and they didn't look half as creepy as the Annabelle doll in this movie Now, for those who don't know, this is based on a "true story". The Annabelle doll was more of a Raggedy Anne style doll, that was surrounded by some paranormal experiences for its owners. In the end, Ed and Lorraine Warren took the doll and have it encased in a blessed case.

In regards to the movie itself, Annabelle does okay with the scares. The writers and director did of course add in a lot of extra touches to the story, to give it a more dramatic and frightening feel. Creepy dolls don't need extra touches, in my opinion.

The Blu-Ray comes with some basic, but cool sounding special features. You get "The Curse of Annabelle", "Bloody Tears of Possession", "Dolls of the Demon", "A Demonic Process", and Deleted Scenes. I am glad they through in some stuff like that. It will help sell the movie. I don't see myself buying this blu-ray, though.

SYNOPSIS: In the village of Cheesebridge, a Victorian-era berg obsessed with wealth, class and stinky fine cheeses, Eggs, a young orphan boy raised by the Boxtrolls, a lovable group of underground cave-dwelling trash collectors, tries to save his friends from an evil exterminator, Archibald Snatcher, with the help of a wealthy local girl named Winnie.

Starring: Ben Kingsley, Dee Bradley Baker, Jared Harris, Nick Frost, Nika Futterman, Pat Fraley, Richard Ayoade, Steve Blum, Tracy Morgan

Directed by: Anthony Stacchi and Graham Annable

I didn't get to watch The Boxtrolls in theaters. It really wasn't something that struck me as a must watch. However, the voice cast is pretty awesome.

The special features list is pretty great. You get "Preliminary Animatic Sequences with Optional Commentary by Directors Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi", "Voicing The Boxtrolls", "Inside the Box", "The Big Cheese: Allergy Snatcher", "Deconstructing the Dance", "Think Big: The Mecha Drill", "The Nature of Creation", "Trolls Right Off the Tongue", "Allergic to Easy", "Let’s Dance", "On the Shoulders of Giants", and "Feature Commentary with Directors Graham Annable And Anthony Stacchi". That's a lot of special features and probably makes this Blu-Ray worth it!

SYNOPSIS: Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) accidentally gets caught up in a drug deal, but she soon turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human comprehension.

Starring: Amr Waked, Analeigh Tipton, Jan Oliver Schroeder, Johan Philip Asbæk, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Min-sik Choi, Morgan Freeman, Nicolas Phongpheth, Pilou Asbæk, Scarlett Johansson

Directed by: Luc Besson

Here's another movie I did not go see. I really thought I saw more movies than this. Anyway, Lucy was met with mixed reviews, possibly because of the debunked myth that humans only use 10% of their brain normally, and that we c an have psychic powers if we were to be able to use all of it. It's sad the movie didn't do well, considering some of the cast and the director. Luc Besson has done a lot of good movies, such as The Professional, La Femme Nikita, and The Fifth Element.

The special features included on the blu-ray are "The Evolution of Lucy" and "Cerebral Capacity: The True Science of Lucy". Seems pretty weak in the special features area, in my opinion.

SYNOPSIS: As young men, Sam Adams (Ben Barnes), John Adams (Henry Thomas), Paul Revere (Michael Raymond-Jame), John Hancock (Rafe Spall), and Dr. Joseph Warren (Ryan Eggold) join forces as the Sons of Liberty seeking to start a revolution in this three-part miniseries.

Starring: Jason O'Mara, Ben Barnes, Henry Thomas, Dean Norris, Andrew Pleavin, Rafe Spall, Michael Raymond-James, Ryan Eggold, Marton Csokas, Emily Berrington

Three-Part Miniseries airing on the History Channel beginning Sunday at 9:00PM

SYNOPSIS: Based on a popular Scandinavian book series by renowned criminologist and novelist Leif G.W. Persson, this drama centers on Detective Everett Backstrom, a grumpy and sometimes offensive detective who heads up the Serious Crimes Unit in Portland, Ore. As Backstrom and his team handle the city's most sensitive cases, the detective tries -- and fails -- to modify his self-destructive tendencies. Three-time Emmy-nominee Rainn Wilson plays the titular role in this series created by executive producer Hart Hanson.

Starring: Page Kennedy, Beatrice Rosen, Rainn Wilson

Airing on Thursdays at 9:00PM on Fox

SYNOPSIS: The final season for the drama finds Raylan working on getting Ava and Dewey Crowe to turn on Boyd, who seeks one more big score. However, more trouble comes to Harlan in the form of formerly exiled gangster Avery Markham (Sam Elliott) and (Garret Dillahunt), a former Special Ops soldier working security.

Starring: Timothy Olyphant, Nick Searcy, Jere Burns, Joelle Carter, Jacob Pitts, Erica Tazel, Walton Goggins

Airing on Tuesdays at 10:00PM on FX

When I first started watching this show, I was less than impressed. While the acting was amazing and the stories were fairly good, I was beyond annoyed with their portrayal of the Central Kentucky area. It just annoyed me so much that it was difficult to watch. Shortly after the first season, they started to fix things, and I started to watch again and enjoy the series tremendously. The worst thing is that after watching it for a little bit, I re-develop my East Kentuckian accent. But I do recommend this show to others, I really enjoy it.

SYNOPSIS: Barry Allen wakes up 9 months after he was struck by lightning and discovers that the bolt gave him the power of super speed. With his new team and powers, Barry becomes "The Flash" and fights crime in Central City.

Starring: Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker

Returning on Tuesdays at 8:00PM on The CW

When I first started watch this show last year, I was very 'eh' about the show. It just didn't catch my attention like the show it is spun off of, The Arrow. However, the more I watched, the more I enjoyed the show. I now can't wait for it restart. This show goes more comic bookish with their villians, while The Arrow seemed more grounded at first.

SYNOPSIS: The third season will reveal Oliver's time in Hong Kong and introduce new allies and villains including: Ra's al Ghu, Ted "Wildcat" Grant (J.R. Ramirez), Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), Maseo Yamashiro (Karl Yune), Devon Aoki as Maseo's wife Tatsu Yamashiro, and Werner Zytle (Peter Stormare)

Starring: Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsay, Paul Blackthorne, Colton Haynes, John Barrowman, Willa Holland, Emily Bett Rickards

Returning on Wednesdays at 8:00PM on The CW

I had to stick it out with the first few episodes of The Arrow back in Season One. I'm so glad I did! This show is just amazing and keeps me glued to the TV during the hour it is on. The mid-season finale nearly killed me, knowing that I had to wait weeks before it would return. Cliffhangers, I hate them!

SYNOPSIS: Sam searches for Dean and Castiel deals with the consequences of his situation as season ten begins.

Starring: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Mischa Collins, Mark Sheppard

Returning on Tuesdays at 9:00PM on The CW

Oh my goodness, the return of Supernatural after the mid-season finale has me so freaking giddy! This show is amazing, after you get past the first season. I had a few people beg me to watch it, and when I first tried, it was so bad. Though I suffered through that first season, and I don't regret for a second! I've went back and re-watched the first few seasons with my sister, and it is nowhere near as bad as I remember. It has turned into such a good show that doesn't mind poking fun at itself and playing up to the fandom.

The use of model kit techniques allow us reproduce the intricate details and sharp lines to maximize the usage of the official 3D character scans. The use of the static display concept ensures that there are no cooling lines on the torsos and no visible ball joints that are prominent in most "action" figures. Rocket Raccoon, at 1/9-scale, stands 7" tall in a Marvel suggested pose so that the body portions won't be deformed when the poses are changed.
