Review: IDW TMNT #50 *SPOILER*

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has so many different origins, stories, character growth and character designs.  A lot of people always try to compare them to each other, at the same time they’re so different.  IDW Publishing has been releasing their own version of the Turtles which is not like any other out there.  With their own history for the characters, their own plots that don’t match up to any other series and their own way of handling very intense moments.  Recently IDW made a lot of news with Donatello, that was only the build up for what is coming in issue 50.  Here is a spoiler filled review of issue 50 from IDW TMNT.

IDW TMNT #44... RIP Donatello??

Drawn by Michele IveyIDW has made a big move with IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44 as Donatello takes the beating of a life time from two of TMNT’s top known henchmen, Bebop and Rocksteady.  This has become the talk of the fandom all around the internet.  Though the question is… did they Kill Donatello?!

No spoilers being given here.  All I can say is that there is a page being passed around online that seems to answer this question.  Yes we have seen the page, but would rather discuss the current issue itself.

FanFic: The Day Raph Saw the Light

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fan fiction. This is often one of the things that fans rely on when we get very little coming out for the Ninja Turtles. Back in the late 1990s, I would read and write TMNT fanfics. Though shortly after the 4Kids series aired in 2003, more TMNT fans appeared online and it became very, very hard for me to keep up with the different fanfics online. I would like to share a few of these fanfics here on Cowabunga Corner. I'm going to start off with one of my shortest TMNT fanfics. It's been updated with my improved writing skills and my editor. This story is all told by Raphael's point of view and if I lined up my stories in a timeline, this would be one of the later ones.

“MIKEY! DON'T! STAY AWAY FROM THERE!! MIKEY!”

Raphael... Death?

This is a Fanfic that I wrote back in the 1999.  Hope everyone enjoys.

Raphael...  Death?

Michaelangelo jumps down and looks up at a Pizza place.   This must be the place.   He thought to himself, as he looks around.   So, where is he?   Michaelangelo, pulls a long coat and hat over himself, covering his looks, as he stands outside.   The dark sky  covers the city like a blanket as the light reflecting from the city hides the millions of stars that could be out that night.   The full moon makes him think of the horror movie he just got done watching.

Michaelangelo takes one more look at a watch hidden in his pocket.  Oh man, he's late. He walks into the building, looking up at the new signs, and the smell of the fresh pizza.   I can't believe he's late.  Michaelangelo goes over and takes a seat.

"Hey, what would you like today?"

Review: "The Raven"

Edgar Allan Poe was a great writer who lived a hard life.  In his final days, he was found out of it and taken to a hospital, where he died.  The facts of his death remain a mystery to this day.  A new movie is coming out this weekend called “The Raven”, which centers on a time where no one really knows what happened.  The movie comes up with it’s own myth for the death of Edgar Allan Poe, showing us the last few days of what could've been his life, an adventure story of mystery, death and romance.

Davy Jones : You will be missed!

Memories of Davy Jones of the Monkees, who passed away Feb. 29th, 2012 at 9:55am from a heart attack.  He will be missed.

Review Corner: "Soul Eater"

Soul EaterRecently I was introduced to an anime named “Soul Eater”, about children that are being trained by Death to be warriors. From the beginning it is clear that this world isn’t Earth. It’s a fun world of magic and warriors.

One of the things that pulled me into this series was their way of handling this darker side of life, giving it the light twist of insanity. You could see this from the beginning of the series with the faces upon the Sun and the Moon. I’ve always enjoyed that bit of twist to the darkness. Much like Halloween Town in “Nightmare Before Christmas”, this town had that feeling that these dangerous things were only out there to live and do their job, while having fun.
